About

About John Paulson

I’ve spent my career at the intersection of manufacturing operations, business processes and ERP systems.

I’m a JD Edwards EnterpriseOne manufacturing and distribution consultant and project manager with decades of experience in manufacturing operations and ERP across multiple industries. My work has taken me into manufacturing environments where the challenge is rarely just software. It is getting planning, product data, shop floor processes, costing and the ERP system aligned so the operation works better as a whole.

Before consulting, I worked directly in manufacturing operations, including division-level responsibility for P&L, manufacturing, planning and materials management, purchasing, OEM manufacturing, global sourcing and supply chain operations. That experience shaped the way I approach ERP consulting today. I look at a system from the perspective of the people who have to plan production, run the floor, manage materials, understand costs and deliver product to the customer.

FROM OPERATIONS TO JD EDWARDS CONSULTING

From Operations to JD Edwards Consulting

I have worked with JD Edwards since 1998, helping manufacturers with implementations, upgrades, assessments, process improvement and complex manufacturing issues. My work spans planning and MRP, shop floor execution, product and master data, BOMs and routings, manufacturing costing, distribution and related business processes.

My approach is not simply to configure individual JDE modules. I focus on client requirements, then design and implement solutions that improve manufacturing performance and efficiency. Technology should support better manufacturing practices, not institutionalize unnecessary complexity.

THE LEAN BOM BLUEPRINT

The Lean BOM Blueprint

That same philosophy led me to write The Lean BOM Blueprint: How to Align Engineering, Planning, and the Shop Floor in ERP-Driven Plants.

The book grew from years of seeing the same underlying problem in different manufacturing environments: decisions made in engineering and product structure flow downstream into planning, material movement, shop floor transactions and costing. When those structures do not reflect how manufacturing should operate, the ERP system often amplifies the problem.

The Lean BOM Blueprint brings those disciplines together from a practitioner’s perspective, with a focus on creating product structures and manufacturing processes that serve both the shop floor and the ERP.

WHAT I BRING TO AN ENGAGEMENT

What I Bring to an Engagement

I bring both sides of the table to a project: the perspective of someone who has been responsible for manufacturing operations and the experience of someone who has spent decades implementing and improving ERP systems.

That combination helps me work across plant operations, planning, engineering, supply chain, finance, IT and project leadership. The objective is straightforward: understand the real business problem, simplify where possible, and build processes and systems that people can actually operate and sustain.
